Samsung Galaxy S5 tipped for March release in London

Yet another tip regarding the potential launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S5 made the rounds on Twitter. According to an Italian journalist citing “reliable source”, the next Samsung Galaxy flagship will launch in mid-March at an event in London.
At a quick glance, the alleged timeframe makes sense, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 got unveiled in March 2013 in New York. Previously rumored launch dates for the Samsung Galaxy S5 included this month, as well as during MWC 2014.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to take the design language of the range in a new direction. The handset is expected to feature a metal body and 2K display.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Include Head Gesture Controls

gs5headtrackingfeat
With the Samsung Galaxy S5 all but confirmed to arrive in March or April of this year, rumors about what to expect from the device are plentiful to say the least. A European patent that was recently spotted by Dutch websiteGalaxy Club reveals a new gesture control that would work by tracking your head movements. The technology could make it to the Galaxy S5, given Samsung’s penchant for packing in tons of features into their flagship smartphones.
The patent shows head gesture technology that relies on the device’s front-facing camera to work its magic, tracking a gesture and responding to it with the proper function. Commands could be carried out by movement of the head, a wink, snarl or even a nod.
Could we see the head gestures make their way to Galaxy S5? It’s possible for sure. The patent was published yesterday, but began it’s journey to approval back in July of 2013. That’s not too long after the release of the Galaxy SIV, and more than enough time for Samsung to work out the bugs in the technology.
Would you like to see head tracking tech in the Galaxy S5? Do you think it’s plausible for Sammy to cram the tech into their shiny new flagship? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S5 slated to debut by April alongside new Galaxy Gear

galaxy-s-4-top
Samsung has kept up a pretty consistent release cycle for its flagship smartphones in recent years, debuting new Galaxy S hardware in the spring followed by a new Galaxy Note in the fall. It looks like 2014 won’t be any different; a Samsung executive has confirmed that the Galaxy S5 is slated to debut in the coming months.
Lee Young Hee has told Bloomberg that Samsung is planning to introduce its new Galaxy S5 around the same March or April timeframe. Lee, who is Samsung’s EVP for mobile, said that her company is also planning to introduce an updated version of its Galaxy Gear smartwatch at the same time as the Galaxy S5. The new Galaxy Gear will include a less bulky design, Lee said, as well as “more advanced functions” that include a calorie counter and heart rate monitor.
What about the Galaxy S5, you ask? Lee was a bit more tight-lipped about that device, but she did say that it will likely be different from its predecessors in terms of its screen size and design. The exec explained that consumers didn’t have as strong a reaction to the Galaxy S 4 as with previous models because they couldn’t feel much of a physical difference between it and the Galaxy S III. “For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover,” Lee said. She went on to say that Samsung is “studying the possibility” of iris recognition tech but wouldn’t say whether or not the feature will be included with the Galaxy S5.
Finally, Lee touched a bit on the next Samsung Galaxy Note. The new model in Samsung’s flagship phablet family will debut in the latter half of 2014 and will target the high-end market and consumers that want a “professional use” device. The rumor mill has suggested that the next Note could feature a three-sided wraparound display that will enable users to read content at an angle.
So that’s a broad picture of what Samsung’s 2014 is expected to look like. Overall there’s nothing terribly surprising in Lee’s statements, but it is interesting to hear that Samsung is planning an updated design for the Galaxy S5 to help it better stand out from its predecessors. Exactly what that design will be is still a mystery, but we’ve seen severalrecent high-end Samsung products adopt a squared-off design with faux leather backsides, so that’s certainly one look that the next Galaxy S could adopt.
If you were in charge of designing the look and feel of Galaxy S5, what features would you include?

CES: Samsung Galaxy S5 Due by April

The ongoing tug-of-war between Apple and Samsung for smartphone market dominance rages on. According to a report from Bloomberg, the next iteration of Samsung's flagship handset will arrive by April. A redesign of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will also launch around the same time frame.
Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, said the Galaxy S5 could arrive as early as March. The follow-up to the Gear smartwatch will apparently feature "more advanced functions" and a sleeker design. Back in November, it wasalleged Samsung had only sold 50,000 units of its first Gear smartwatch.
During CES 2014, the Samsung exec also mentioned the company's interest in regards to eye-scanning technology. "We are studying the possibility but can't really say whether we will have it or not on the S5," said Lee.
Samsung showed off a number of products during this year's Consumer Electronics Show, including a new Android-based camera and a first look at the curved Galaxy Round smartphone.

Samsung wants to take the Galaxy S5 'back to basics,' may include iris scanner

Samsung has outlined its plans for various new devices in a wide-ranging interview with Bloomberg News. The Galaxy S5 smartphone will reportedly be released by April, and Samsung is said to be considering iris-scanning technology for security in a possible response to Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5S.
Lee Young-hee, the company’s mobile executive VP, says that a new version of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will make its debut alongside the Galaxy S5, saying that it will feature "more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved." Perhaps the most outlandish revelation is reserved for the Galaxy Note line — the fourth iteration is pegged for the second half of this year, and Samsung is said to be considering a "three-sided display" to allow for visibility from multiple angles.
Lee told Bloomberg News that the Galaxy S4 may not have resonated with consumers as much as its predecessor because the industrial design was so similar. "When we moved to S4 from S3, it's partly true that consumers couldn't really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn't as big," she said, before suggesting that the new phone's hardware may represent a significant revamp. "For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it's about the display and the feel of the cover."
The Galaxy S5 may make major changes to Samsung's software, as well, if alleged images of a new UI prove accurate. The new Android skin features a pastel color scheme and thinner fonts; although the screenshots came from Evleaks, which has a good record of accuracy, Samsung is only said to be "exploring" the software revamp.

Samsung Galaxy S5 will launch in April - and it could come complete with IRIS scanning technology

While Apple prefers to remain tight-lipped about upcoming product launches, Samsung’s executive vice president is much more open.
Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, Lee Young Hee announced that the firm is looking to release its next flagship phone between March and April - and it will be called the Galaxy S5.
Lee also discussed the possibility a future model of the phone could feature iris recognition technology, yet did not confirm if it would be added to S5 or not.

Rumours have suggested Samsung is working on a follow-up to its Galaxy Gear smartwatch since last year, too, and this could be unveiled at the same time as the S5.
Lee told Bloomberg: We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time.
‘When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.’
Lee is referring to the criticism the watch received when it went on sale in September last year.

MYRIS SET TO REPLACE PASSWORDS FOR ALL YOUR DEVICES

    Myris device from EyeLock
Biometric experts at New York-based firm EyeLock have created a dongle fitted with an iris scanner.
The Myris device can register up to five different users.
Each user begins by scanning their eyes to take an image of their respective irises. These unique images are then translated into an encrypted code.
The scan takes between 10 and 20 seconds and the authentication code is created immediately.
Once registered, each user can add various online passwords to their Myris profile.
Next time the user visits one of these accounts, instead of entering a password, they can scan their eyes for immediate and secure access.
According to EyeLock, the False Acceptance Rate of the average fingerprint sensor, in which the system is hacked by an unknown print, is one in every 10,000 scans.  For iris scans, this increases to one 1 in 2.25 trillion scans.
Myris is set to go on sale before the summer and will cost around $250 (£150) although an exact date and price is yet to be announced.

Some analysts claimed the Korean firm had rushed the production of the gadget in order to beat Apple to releasing a smartwatch, and the design suffered.
However, Apple has still not announced its rumoured iWatch.
Regarding the iris recognition technology, Lee said during Samsung’s press event at the Consumer Electronics Show: ‘Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology and we are studying the possibility but can’t really say whether we will have it or not on the S5.’
Samsung is said to be working on adding biometric technology to a future model to rival the popular fingerprint scanner on Apple’s iPhone 5S.

The iris scanner would not be the first time Samsung has used eye-tracking technology. Last year's Galaxy S4, pictured, includes a feature that locks onto the movement of a user's eyes. When a user looks away, the phone's screen goes into standby automatically
